What Happens to the Cornea in Lasik Surgery?

Lasik eye surgery is a process that helps to give the eyes better vision and therefore little or no reliance on any assistance to see properly. The cornea is profiled during the surgery. This is the most common type of method that is used in Lasik surgery because the cornea will be repaired and altered. There are various other things that happen with the cornea in Lasik surgery.

The most common thing that is done with the cornea in Lasik surgery is that of the cornea coming into contact with an excimer laser. This is used so that there is less discomfort during the surgery and therefore a way to correct farsightedness or nearsightedness.

The first thing that is done to the cornea in Lasik surgery is to create a circular flap in the area. This is done by the excimer or the microkreatome that can be used in substitute of the excimer. The cornea will then be profiled after the flap is created.

During the profiling of the cornea in Lasik surgery corneal tissue will be removed with the laser. Cool ultraviolet light rays will help to reduce the level of small pieces of tissue that are especially a problem. Depending on the severity of the person’s sight problem more or less corneal tissue will be removed.

The cornea will then be reshaped after the tissue is removed. This is done so that the cornea will be able to focus. This helps to improve vision as a result. After the flap moves over the eye it will be able to heal.

The process involving the cornea in Lasik surgery mentioned here will take over a few minutes for an eye. After a few minutes the doctor will be able to perform the surgery on the other eye. This wait is needed so that the eye will be able to cool off. In some cases people will prefer to have surgery on the other eye a few weeks after the first surgery.

The excimer laser is one of the best things to use for the cornea is Lasik surgery. This is because the laser is especially accurate. The doctor will be able to control the laser’s movement and intensity. This will help to get the eye to be contacted appropriately so that the eye will be protected and covered even if there is any movement.

There are some problems with the cornea after Lasik surgery though, but they are generally short. These problems include difficulties with low light vision. In some cases another surgery will be needed. Of course, the difficulties will generally go away over time even if another surgery is going to be needed. In fact, in some cases the cost of the additional surgery will be covered if the first one was paid for.

Overall, the cornea works in Lasik surgery to help improve the vision that a person has. Not only does the cornea in Lasik surgery get targeted but the process to heal it and work on it will be especially easy.
