Answers About Lasik Eye Surgery

If you are looking to improve your vision then Lasik eye surgery may be your best option. This is a great procedure that can help if you have some vision problems, but there are some concerns about Lasik eye surgery that you should consider.

One of the main things to do for Lasik eye surgery is to be up front with your doctor. A good Lasik doctor will explain how the Lasik eye surgery process will work. You’ll need to get a better idea of what you want to know, so be sure to be direct with your doctor in order to get answers to any concerns that you have.

One of the main questions about Lasik eye surgery involves whether or not you are a good candidate for surgery. For instance, you would not be a good candidate if you have diabetes or any autoimmune diseases. Also, people under eighteen should not use Lasik eye surgery. If you have any degenerative eye diseases then you may not be able to get Lasik eye surgery.

Whether or not you would need eyeglasses or contact lenses after Lasik eye surgery is another concern. In most cases people will still need some form of assistance but that assistance will be minimal compared to what you had used in the past. Therefore, don’t expect your vision to be completely healed after surgery.

Another of the questions on Lasik eye surgery involves the risks that are involved. There are some risks, just like with any other type of surgery. Some side effects of Lasik eye surgery include a reduced level of light vision. However, that side effect can disappear over time. Some long term complications can happen but that will rarely occur.

During the Lasik eye surgery process the eyes will not be harmed. This is because even though you would stay awake for the process your eyes will be numbed with drops and a mild sedative can be used to calm you. In fact, each eye will take a few minutes to do.

You will need to take some time off of work after Lasik eye surgery. However, that time will be minimal. In most cases you can return to work after two or three days. Your eyes could be bothered at times so you should rest your eyes more often not too long after Lasik eye surgery.

The cost of Lasik eye surgery is the last concern that you should consider. It generally costs around two thousand dollars on average for the entire procedure. However, if your sight problems are severe then you will have to pay more money. It is elective surgery so it is not going to be covered by most insurance plans. Some plans do have extended eye care plans that can help to help reduce the cost of Lasik eye surgery. In some cases employers will cover the costs of Lasik eye surgery, so you should look to see if your company will cover the costs of it or at least part of the costs.
